Pioneers Power Past Raiders

Five Second-Half Goals Leads Denver to 6-0 Win

DENVER, Colo. — A five-goal second half led Denver to a 6-0 win over Colgate Thursday evening.

Colgate had a couple of good chances at the start of the game. Ari Bezanson logged the first shot, but she put it just wide of the goal. Colorado native Paige Foa had a good look for Colgate in the 15th minute when she ripped one that got denied on a save by DU's goalie.

Denver pulled ahead in the 14th minute with a goal off the foot of Liz Mortiz.

The Raiders continued to try to break through the Pioneers' backline but could not do so, getting called offside three times in the first half.

Alli Popham had a strong start to the game, making three saves in the opening 45 minutes, including denying Denver on a one-on-one breakaway chance in the 20th minute. She made a diving save in the 42nd minute and stopped a shot from distance with just seconds remaining on the clock in the first.

Colgate tried to find an equalizer right out of the gate in the second. Two minutes in, Olivia Anderson took a shot that got saved. Three minutes later, Ana Schremp connected on a header, but it landed to the right of the goal.

Denver scored twice in three minutes to make it 3-0 in the 61st minute.

Schremp was played a through ball into the box in the 66th minute and had the goalie to beat, but the sophomore rolled a shot just wide of the right post.

Ella Frost converted on a penalty kick in the 71st minute, then scored again in the 82nd minute to make it 5-0. Denver had another penalty kick in the 85th minute that it scored on.

The Raiders had a couple of other chances late in the game. Sophie Wand took a shot from In the box that went off target, and Nikki DiCaprio notched a header over the goal off a free kick shortly after.
