Bezanson's Goal Not Enough in Raiders' Defeat

Sophomore Scores Third Goal of the Season but Colgate Falls 2-1 to Colorado

BOULDER, Colo. — Ari Bezanson scored on a penalty kick in the second half, but Colgate fell 2-1 to Colorado Sunday.

The Raiders got awarded the PK in the 54th minute when Ana Schremp got taken down by a defender after being played a through ball into the box. Bezanson converted on the penalty kick to knot the score up at 1-1.

The Buffaloes took the initial lead in the first half when Shrya James finished one off a pass from Rachel Rosen to put her team ahead 1-0 in the 32nd minute.

Colgate generated some good looks in the first half, playing balls into the box, but could not get a shot off. The Raiders also had a corner kick in the third minute that they could not capitalize on.

The trend continued for much of the second half. In the 59th minute, Ally Giovino hit a good ball into the box that just missed the head of Cara Schmidlein.

Emma Hickey subbed in goal for Alli Popham in the second half, making her first appearance of the season. She made a big diving save in the 66th minute to shut down a Colorado scoring opportunity. Popham made two saves in her 45 minutes of work.

The Raiders played the final 27 minutes down a player after Bezanson picked up her second yellow card.

In the 73rd minute, Ellie Stokes beat a defender and dribbled into the box before playing a cross on the ground that got intercepted by the goalie.

Colgate's final chance came in the 83rd minute when it earned another corner kick, from which Schremp ripped a shot that sailed over the goal.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson

"I'm very proud of the team and their effort all the way through today. We asked for a response after the other night that we could be proud of. I'd say we did that. I thought the team executed the game plan very well, and of course, it was nice to break the streak and find the back of the net. We played tough and gave Colorado everything that they could handle. Credit to them, they found two very good goals, but nonetheless, I'm very pleased with this as our final performance heading into conference play. I have to say too, we had such an incredible showing of fans here in Colorado for both games, and I hope we made them proud. We learned a lot from this weekend through some great competition. All in all, we had a wonderful trip as a team out west."
