Men’s Soccer Wins a Point in Boston

Raiders draw with top-of-the-table Boston University

Box Score BOSTON, MASS.— The Colgate men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against the Patriot League-leading Boston University Terriers on Saturday afternoon. The game marks the third tie in the all-time series between the two squads and the first scoreless meeting since the rivalry began in 1979.

"The guys showed incredible commitment today and earned an important point on the road this afternoon," Head Coach Erik Ronning said. "It is important for the group to exhibit the same habits and level of commitment every single practice and game from here on out."

The Raiders started hot, earning two corner kicks within the first five minutes of play and dominating possession for the better part of the first half. After Colgate's third and final corner kick of the evening in the 13th minute, Oliver Townend delivered a massive save to keep the score even in the junior's second start of the year.

Just three minutes later, the Raiders' best opportunity of the night came a few inches short when junior forward Alejandro Coury launched a shot from 35 yards out. Unfortunately, his attempt to chip the Terrier's keeper clanked off the crossbar and was safely cleared away by a BU defender. Coury saw another chance again at the halfway point of the first frame, but his free kick was swaddled by the keeper.

The second half was all Boston, as the home team came out firing in the last 45 minutes of play. Townend fended off the Terriers at the goal line, saving back-to-back would be goals before his defenders could clear the dangerous opportunity.

Colgate was then outshot 12-1 coming out of the halftime locker room but held strong in the final third to steal a point on the road.
