HAMILTON — Vermont scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-0 victory over Colgate Sunday afternoon.
The Raiders got good looks right from the start.
Sara Anelli and
Olivia Anderson both had shots saved in the first 13 minutes.
Ellie Stokes then put one just wide of the net shortly after.
The Catamounts opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when a one-touch pass from Sydney Remington went over the top to Kate Bossert, who struck it off the bounce to make it 1-0 UVM.
In the 37th minute,
Julia Lombardo tried to get on the scoresheet when she received a pass, then turned, dribbled, and ripped a shot from just outside the 18-yard box that got stopped by Vermont's goalie.
The Raiders continued to create chances in the second half, earning two corner kicks in a two-minute span in the opening five minutes, but they couldn't get anything going.
Ana Schremp was played a through ball into the box in the 55th minute but had a tough angle, resulting in her shot getting saved. Eight minutes later, the sophomore had another look that she put just wide of the net.
Vermont doubled its lead in the 65th minute when Lauren DeGroot found the back of the net on a breakaway, putting the scoreboard at 2-0.
Colgate continued to pressure as just four minutes later,
Ally Giovino received a through ball in the box and took a shot that hit the side netting.
With just over 14 minutes remaining,
Alli Popham came out of the goal and made a sliding save to prevent UVM from putting another one on the board.
In the 82nd minute,
Anna Keeling ripped one on goal that got tipped over the bar, giving the Raiders a corner that they could not convert on.
Colgate finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots, including a 5-3 edge in shots on goal.

Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson
"Disappointed in the result today, but continue to be pleased with the effort of our group. It's not for lack of want or desire, unfortunately, we just need to find moments of execution in the final third on both ends. We scheduled a challenging non-conference slate, and each team provided new moments of learning and growth for us in preparation ultimately for Patriot League play. Vermont put together a gritty performance today and earned what they got. We are remaining steadfast in our commitment to the process with our group."
