HAMILTON — Colgate men's soccer suffered a midweek loss, losing to Lehigh, 2-1, on Wednesday night. The Raiders went into the break defending a narrow 1-0 lead, but Lehigh's second-half pressure cracked Colgate's defense twice, sealing the game for the Mountain Hawks.
Colgate opened the shooting early, recording two shots in the first four minutes. Lehigh returned the favor with two quick shots of their own by the 24th minute.
However, the Raiders were first on the scoreboard in the 34th minute courtesy of senior forward Aidan Davock's team-leading fourth goal of the season. Junior forward Alejandro Coury's low strike was saved by the Lehigh goalkeeper, but Davock found nylon when the rebounded shot found his right foot for an easy tap-in goal. Colgate remained in the lead until halftime.
The Raiders found themselves in foul trouble to start the second frame, with Dale Lepper receiving a yellow card and Connor Cates committing a foul resulting in a penalty kick for the Mountain Hawks, which Lehigh's junior forward Kingson Perry knocked in to even the score at 1-1.
The Raiders had trouble returning to their rhythm, only attempting three shots across the next 25 minutes, all of which missed the net. Senior goalkeeper Andrew Cooke made a save in the 59th minute to preserve the even score, but 20 minutes later the Mountain Hawks found the back of the net to take the 2-1 lead.
Despite making several substitutions, Colgate struggled to put any more pressure on Lehigh, who left Hamilton with the win.
The loss leaves Colgate with a 1-2 record in the Patriot League and a 2-3 mark at home.
