Raiders Best Binghamton in Non-Conference Sweep

Road Victory Pushes Win Streak to Nine

VESTAL, N.Y. – Abby Shadwick posted a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs to lead Colgate's powerful offense in a 3-0 sweep of Binghamton Tuesday night.

Shadwick connected on her attacks at a .522 clip, leading Colgate's offense which finished with a .355 hitting percentage. Sophie Thompson (.375), Gillian Hauschild (.333), and Milan Bayless (.318) all hit well over .300 with at least seven kills each. Sydney Jones dished 32 assists.

Defensively, Colgate held Binghamton to a .189 hitting percentage and six different players recorded a block. Thompson now has 363 block assists, eight away from tying Autumn McKenzie's program record of 371 for her career.

"Our execution was really strong tonight," said head coach Ryan Baker. "I was very pleased with the number of digs we were able to get against a low error team. We passed very well which resulted in a very efficient first ball attack. We will take the week to get ready for another tough week of league play. It'll be great to be in front of our fans again."

HOW IT HAPPENED

Set 1: Colgate 25, Binghamton 22
The first set was back and forth from start to finish. Neither side led by more than two points until the Raiders scored four unanswered to build a 17-14 capped off by a service ace from Lilly Saleeby. Binghamton worked its way back within 22-21 but Colgate never lost the lead and a kill from Bayless sealed the opening frame for the Raiders, 25-22.

Set 2: Colgate 25, Binghamton 18
Both teams traded early runs. Colgate established an 11-4 lead before Binghamton battled back with an 8-1 surge to tie the set at 12-12. The Raiders reclaimed the lead for good and later used a 4-0 run after Taylor Cigna's service ace pushed the margin to 22-16. Kills from Bayless, Shadwick, and Thompson down the stretch paced the Raiders to a 25-18 victory.

Set 3: Colgate 25, Binghamton 13
Colgate took charge of the dominant third set with a 5-0 start thanks to four straight attack errors by Binghamton. Back-to-back kills from Shadwick extended Colgate's lead to 13-4 and there was never a doubt. The Bearcats closed within 20-13 before the Raiders closed out the match with another 5-0 burst to finish off the match, 25-13.
