WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Colgate track and field kicked off their weekend with two athletes traveling South to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational. A new meet that hosted 19 NCAA Division I teams kicked off on Friday morning.
In the first event, sophomore
Cole Blair continued his successful season with a come-from-behind win. Entering the last round of jumps in the final, Blair moved from third to first with his jump of 7.23 meters ( 23' 8 3/4") to hold on for the win.
Shortly thereafter, Blair was back at it with his first collegiate attempt at the triple jump. There the Texan finished fourth with a hop skip and a jump of 13.34 (43' 9 1/4").
The second Raider to hit the track today was sophomore
Ben Horner, who raced the 800 meters, his premier event. Horner ran a strong race to lower his outdoor personal record by running 1:52.26, besting his time from last weekend's meet at Bucknell by over a second.
Later today senior Abigail Melican will take the track at the UAlbany Bobbi Palma Spring Classic in the women's steeplechase. The remainder of the Colgate Track and Field team head to Holy Cross to compete on Saturday in the Holy Cross Invitational.
