Softball Splits Doubleheader with Siena

Senior Bailey Misken moved into third all-time in career strikeouts during Colgate's 9-1 victory

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Colgate softball split the day with Siena, falling 6-0 in game one before stomping the Saints 9-1 in six innings during game two of the non-conference twin bill on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Jillian Herbst led the offensive charge, going 3-for-6 at the plate with one run and five RBI. Pitcher Bailey Misken moved into tied third place all-time after dishing out her 356th strikeout against the Saints.

The game two victory marked head coach Marissa Lamison-Myers' 100th career win at the helm for the Raiders.

GAME 1 | Siena 6, Colgate 0

Siena controlled the pace the entire game after scoring an unearned run in the first. The Saints added three more runs off pitcher Alexa Acker in the second inning to lead 4-0.

Colgate didn't reach base till the top of the third after Alexis Romero walked to open the inning. Claire Whalen and Kara Fusco each singled a few at-bats later, but all three were eventually left stranded.

The Saints scored two final runs in the bottom of the fourth off Acker and reliever Jenna Geffert to push the score to its final tally of 6-0.

GAME 2 | Colgate 9, Siena 1

The Raiders came out the gate hot in the second game of the doubleheader, putting up three runs in the opening inning. Senior Rachel Carney started the offense by reaching second base after being struck by a ball and then stealing second. Carney crossed home plate after senior Adrienne Nardone reached first on a fielding error by the Saints' first baseman. Nardone scored the second run of the inning off a single to left field from Steph Jacoby, and the run that pushed the lead to 3-0 came from catcher Quinn Livesay who scored on a wild pitch.

Senior Misken started her strong outing on the mound in the bottom of the opening inning, as the defense put the batters down in three quick outs, including a double play.

Colgate's bats continued to stay hot as three more runs were scored in the second inning. Fusco and Livesay found themselves on base right before Herbst slammed a three-run homer to extend the lead to 6-0 and bring a new pitcher to the bump for Siena.

Both offenses were quiet during the third innings as all six batters were put down in order. Carney went on to score Colgate's seventh run of the game in the fourth inning after reaching base off another fielding error.

The Raiders looked to close the game out in the sixth inning as two additional runs were added to the board to lengthen the lead to nine runs after Herbst hit a double to center to score Carney and Nardone, who tripled and walked a few at-bats before.

Siena spoiled Misken's shutout in the bottom of the sixth after a single to the infield scored a runner. Luckily for Colgate, the mercy rule went into effect to end the game with the Raiders on top 9-1.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Softball Coach Marissa Lamison-Myers

"I am so incredibly grateful to Colgate, Colgate Athletics, and this team for all they have done. I have to share this accomplishment with Matt Nandin as well. He has been a huge part of the success, and I couldn't thank him enough.

"After dropping the first game, we rallied behind Bailey, who had the game under control the entire six innings of work. It was great to see our bats come alive again and string some hits together. Our team needed this as a confidence boost heading into a big weekend in Boston."
