Softball Drops Close Contest to Boston

Senior Taylor Ludwick slammed her first home run of the season in Colgate's 2-1 decision to Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Colgate softball dropped a close 2-1 contest to Boston University on Friday afternoon.

The Terriers hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to win their 10th straight Patriot League game.

Senior Taylor Ludwick hit the sole Raider run after slamming a homer to right field to record her first home run of the season.

The game was close from the start, as both teams were held scoreless till the fourth inning.

Colgate tried to make some noise early, as Steph Jacoby reached base off an error and Jillian Herbst singled in the second, while Elizabeth Nitka singled up the middle to open the third, but all three were left stranded.

The Terriers hit a single in the bottom of the first three innings as well, but pitcher Bailey Misken and the defense prevailed to keep Boston off the board.

Ludwick slashed the scoring lull in the top of the fourth with a leadoff homer to right center to put Colgate up 1-0. Herbst tried to keep the offense going with a single, but the Terriers' defense got the final out of the inning.

Both teams' bats got hot in the sixth, with Boston tying the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning off a sacrifice fly.

The Raiders juiced the bases with two outs on the board in the top of the sixth, with pinch runners Bailey Burns and Claire Whalen advancing after Alexis Romero walked. Unfortunately for Colgate, the bases would be left loaded, as Boston got a strikeout to end the inning.

Ultimately, the Terriers took the game 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh off a single after retiring the Raiders in order in the top half of the inning.
