EASTON, Pa. – A dominant effort in draw controls and six goals from
Caroline Panzirer carried the Colgate women's lacrosse team to a 15-11 victory over Lafayette on Sunday morning.
Colgate won the battle in draw controls 22-8 thanks to six apiece from Sarah Harding and Cara O'Reilly. Panzirer finished the game with nine points on six goals and three assists to lead the Raiders offensively. Kyra Lucey posted four goals and four assists, while Kait Henning added three goals and an assist.
The game began Saturday afternoon but inclement weather suspended the contest with 7:58 remaining in the second quarter. The two teams picked back up Sunday morning with the Raiders leading 6-3.
On Saturday, Colgate used the first jolt to open an early lead. Panzirer scored twice in the first four minutes and Henning capped a three-goal run at the 9:29 mark to give the Raiders a 3-0 edge. Lafayette got on the board less than two minutes later before Lucey found the netting from point blank to stretch Colgate's lead to 4-1 at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams alternated goals to start the second. Henning added another tally and Panzirer scored her third goal of the contest around two goals from Lafayette's Sarah Bennett to make it 6-3 with 7:58 showing, which was where play was suspended until Sunday.
Lucey's second-quarter goal kicked off Sunday's action and the Raiders led 8-4 at halftime. Colgate's advantage was trimmed to 9-6 midway through the third quarter before Panzirer potted two more tallies in a three-goal surge to build a 13-7 advantage after three quarters.
Lafayette opened the fourth quarter with back-to-back goals but Harding ended the comeback attempt with her first goal of the game on an assist by Molly Krestinski with 5:07 remaining. Colgate cruised the rest of the way to the 15-11 victory.
