ALBANY, N.Y. – Colgate's season-high 14 goals weren't enough to overcome UAlbany's second-half surge in a 19-14 loss to the Great Danes on Saturday afternoon.
The Raiders got off to a hot start and established a two-goal halftime lead before UAlbany outscored Colgate 7-3 in the third and 4-1 in the fourth to turn the tables.
Colgate used a three-goal burst to build a 6-3 advantage after the first quarter thanks to goals from Molly Krestinski, Caroline Panzirer, and Kyra Lucey during the run. Teammates Kait Henning (2) and Sarah Marcovici also found the back of the net in the first period for the Raiders.
The two teams traded their first three goals of the second quarter before back-to-back tallies from the Great Danes trimmed the margin to 9-8. Panzirer finished her third goal with 1:46 left and Colgate established a 10-8 lead at the half. Henning also had a hat trick in the first half.
UAlbany responded with a 6-2 surge to start the second stanza. Panzirer's fourth goal of the contest kept the Raiders in front 11-10 before the Great Danes capped their run with four straight goals to lead 14-11. Colgate scored two of the last three in the period after goals from Devon Maillet and Lauren Thompson trimmed the deficit to 15-13 with one quarter to go.
Henning scored her fourth goal of the afternoon early in the fourth quarter to cut it to 16-14 but that was as close as Colgate would get. The Great Danes scored the final three goals to pull away for the 19-14 decision.
Panzirer and Henning paced the Raiders with four goals apiece, while Lucey had a goal and two assists. Helena Morrison stopped eight shots between the pipes.

Head Coach Kathy Taylor
"Today we continued to grow, especially on offense. I was pleased with our shooting for the most part, scoring on 50 percent of our shots. We played some great defense but our composure down the stretch waned. Albany capitalized on our weakness in the clear and we gave up several fast-break goals in the end. The score doesn't really reflect how close the game was but in the end, we came up short. I remain positive that this team will start realizing their potential and turning these outings into victories."
