HAMILTON – Caroline Panzirer scored a career-high eight goals, including three during an 8-0 surge that carried over halftime, to lift Colgate past Bucknell 16-13 Wednesday evening.
Panzirer had a hat trick seven minutes into the game on her way to scoring Colgate's first five goals, the last of which pulled the Raiders within 6-5 three minutes into the second quarter. Bucknell scored three of the next four before the Raiders tipped the scale.
Trailing 9-6 with 9:35 remaining in the first half, Colgate didn't allow another goal until the 2:30 mark of the third quarter. Six different players scored during an 8-0 momentum swing over 21 minutes of game time starting with a flurry from Lauren Thompson, Molly Krestinski, and Kyra Lucey to tie the game at 9-9.
Lucey added another in between goals from Ella Bishara and Panzirer before Kait Henning capped it off with back-to-back markers to establish a 14-9 lead. Bucknell scored three goals over the final 2:30 of the term to make it 14-12 heading into the fourth quarter.
Panzirer countered with back-to-back goals in the final period to squash Bucknell's comeback attempt and the Raiders secured their first Patriot League win of the season, 16-13.
Panzirer blistered the nets with eight goals on nine shots. Lucey found the back of the net twice and dished a season-high five assists, while Krestinski and Henning each finished with a pair of goals. Seven Raiders recorded at least one point in Colgate's highest-scoring game of the season.
Catie Lang relieved
Helena Morrison in the cage early in the second quarter and picked up her first collegiate win with eight saves in 42 minutes.
