HAMILTON – Colgate scored three of the game's first four goals and had five of the game's last seven tallies, but the effort wasn't enough to overcome a Bucknell 7-0 second period in a 14-10 Patriot League loss to the Bison.
Rory Connor scored three times in the fourth quarter to help bring the Raiders back from a 12-5 deficit. Connor's goal at 13:44 was followed by a
Jack Turner marker off a Connor assist to close the gap to 12-7. Bucknell bumped the lead back to six goals at the 9:10 mark. Connor answered by finding net with goals at 6:61 and 3:05.
Michael Minicus completed a Colgate three goal run with a diving shot from the left side of the crease to pull the Raiders within 13-10. A Bucknell goal at 1:37 sealed the win.
Bucknell scored on the first shot of the game just 44 seconds into the contest, but the Raiders responded with three straight on Connor's first goal of the game at 9:45, followed by an
Adam Salvaggio goal at 8:55 and Turner's first of the game at 3:50. Bucknell notched its second tally with a minute remaining for a 3-2 Colgate lead after the first quarter.
The second period belonged to the Bison giving the visitors a 9-3 halftime edge. A pair of Raider scores in the third period bookended two Bucknell goals. Turner scored his second of the game on an assist by Minicus at 9:53, and
Patty Eldredge took a feed from Connor to close the quarter scoring.
Connor had a seven-point afternoon with four goals and three assists. Turner added a hat trick and Minicus had a goal and a helper. Matt Lacombe had 13 saves in the Raider net, with
Max Yates snaring eight of Colgate's 36 ground balls.
The Raiders dominated the face off statistics winning 18 of 28 attempts (.642).
Brian Wilmans was 13-21 at the "X" and scooped nine ground balls.
Shots in the game were relatively even with Bucknell getting off 42 shots to the Raiders'40. Colgate won the ground ball battle 36-29 and were successful on 23 of 26 clearing attempts.
