HAMILTON – Colgate used a three-goal run to close the gap in the fourth quarter but the comeback effort fell short in an 11-8 loss to Boston University Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium.
Colgate scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to draw within 10-7 after Caroline Panzirer's marker with 8:37 to play. With all the momentum the Raiders had a chance to make it a two-goal game but Lauren Thompson's shot from point blank was stuffed. Boston University scored on its ensuing possession to put the game out of reach.
Sarah Harding capped the scoring with 36 seconds left to bring the game to its final score, 11-8.
Eight different Raiders found the back of the net in the decision. Kyra Lucey and Panzirer had a goal and an assist each to lead the team with two points apiece. Helena Morrison made a season-high 10 saves in limiting the Terriers to their second-lowest goal total of the season.
Sarah Marcovici and Kendall Belanger sparked the early seesaw battle with Colgate's two goals in the first quarter. The Terriers struck first with back-to-back goals before Marcovici answered a feed from Panzirer to get Colgate on the board. Bellanger scored unassisted to tie the game at 2-2 before Claire Gola gave Boston University a 3-2 lead at the end of the first.
Molly Krestinski leveled the game at 3-3 with her fifth goal of the season early in the second quarter but the rest of the term unfortunately belonged to the visitors. The Terriers scored four unanswered, the last of which came with 0.3 seconds left, to lead 7-3 at intermission.
Boston University added two more to make it a 6-0 run before Kait Henning snapped the drought with her 11th goal of the season. Lucey wrapped around the net and centered a pass for Henning, who buried the one-timer to make it 10-4 after three quarters.
Colgate's big fourth quarter wasn't enough to overcome Boston University's fast start in the 11-8 defeat.
