Raiders Finish Strong in Patriot League Championships

Cole Blair highlights weekend

ANNAPOLIS, Md. –  Raiders Finish Strong on the Final Day of the Patriot League Indoor Championships backed by Cole Blair Winning the Men's Field Performer of the Meet.

On the last day of the Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships on the shores of the Severn River hosted by the Naval Academy, the Raiders saw both 4 x 400 relays capture a top eight finish with the men placing sixth with a season-best time of 3:20.63, as it beat last year's time by almost eight seconds. The woman took home eighth place in 4:06.53 which was over six seconds faster than the year prior.

The highlight of the weekend came at the conclusion of the meet where sophomore Cole Blair was awarded the Male Field Event Athlete of the Meet from his performance on Saturday where he set a school, meet, and facility record with his jump of 7.66 meters (25'1 ¾") in the long jump. The last time a Raider garnered this award was in 2001 when Phinel Petit-Frere won the Patriot League Field Performer of the Meet.

Other notable performances by the Raiders were freshman Grace Kwitek in the high jump, just missing a three-way time for seventh where she cleared her season best of 1.60 meters ( 5' 3") but placed 11th based upon misses at an earlier height.

In the 3000 meters, on the men's side, juniors Gavin Fowler and Peter Marks ran indoor and overall personal records respectively. Fowler edged out his brother Sam Fowler who competes for Lafayette. Senior Abigail Melican led the women in the 3k with a personal best of 10:23.34 finishing 18th overall. The men's DMR team placed ninth overall but improved their performance of a year ago by 16 seconds.

As a team, the Colgate men finished in eighth with a total of 13 points, higher than the 2022 Indoor Championships. The women finished in 10th, scoring more points than the previous year's team.

Head Coach Chelsea France

"This weekend was a full team effort. We spoke about planting seeds as a foundation to build this program to the goals we would like to accomplish this season and this weekend's team did just that. Major foundation laid with a Patriot League Champion, a meet record, and 15 new personal records set this weekend. I could not be more proud of our student-athletes and coaching staff for their commitment and hard work. Excited for what's to come for this team."
