Colgate Competes in Red Dragon Invitational

Multiple Raiders Collect Podium Finishes

CORTLAND, N.Y. - Colgate men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Cortland, N.Y. to compete in the Red Dragon Invitational on Friday, April 3. Multiple athletes picked up podium wins on both teams, with Ava Kletti, Clare Gillis, John Griffith, and Owen McMorrow taking home gold.

WOMEN

Linden Cafcules and Juliet Drury broke into the top ten in the women's 1500m, earning fourth (4:51.42) and fifth (4:52.34) , respectively. Dolores Maxwell, Penelope Schenkel, Anna Moore, Emma Klina, and Sisi Elkinson also competed for the Raiders in the event.

Caroline Kosich raced in the 100m and earned a time of 13.03s, while Elizabeth Manly cleared the 100m hurdles in 16.82s. Manly also finished the 200m in 27.01s.

Captain Clare Gillis took home the first medal for the women in the 400m, earning a new personal best and silver finish at 59.02s.

Chloe Schiller had the strongest finish in the 800m for the Raiders, clocking in at 2:23.75. Cafcules, Drury and Maxwell also ran in the event.

Sonia Erbe found fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.53m.

Juniors Ava Kletti and Abby Poplawski clinch the top two finishes in the women's 5000. Kletti crossed first at 18:22.51, clearing the rest of the competition by over a minute. Poplawski crossed next at 19:31.39.

Taylor Gearheart gained experience in the hammer throw, with a throw of 33.87m. 

Alise Turner had a sixth place finish in the long jump, clearing 5.07m.

MEN

Will Keiser found himself third on the podium in the men's 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:02.20. Roman Steis also edged himself into the top ten at ninth place, with a time of 4:10.81. Joseph Belford, Finley Tobin, Ryan Wilson, Jamie Anderson, and Andrew Sullivan also gained experience in the event.

Simon Connors finished seventh in the 100m with a time of 11.17. Daniel Olabanji (11.43s), Jed Guenthner (11.58s), and Arison Cruz (12.01s) finished shortly after Connors.

Connors and Olabanji also ran later in the 200m. Guenthner also jumped to 11th place in the long jump with a leap of 5.91m.

Three Raiders finished in the top ten in the 800m. Tyler Robinson crossed the line in fifth place with a time of 1:58.42, followed by Finn Kosich and Jack Gabrielle in sixth and seventh, respectively. Gabriel Kramer-Griffith and Josh Myers clinched spots in the top 20.

All six Colgate runners finished within the top ten of the 5000m. Owen McMorrow took home gold with a time of 15:10.96, followed by Thomas Rivier in second (15:18.62), and Liam Burgess in third (15:30.72). Mason Telatnik, Dylan DeCicco, and Sam Ash crossed fifth through seventh in that order.

The 4x400 teams found success with Olabanji, Guenthner, Cruz, and Antoine picking up another silver (3:31.12) for the Raiders. The second relay team of Gabrielle, Kramer-Griffith, Myers, and Robinson finished fourth.

The 300m steeplechase also found wins from Colgate as John Griffith placed first with a time of 9:28.49, followed by Owen DeMatt in second (9:37.57). First-year Michael Doyle also competed in the event and earned fourth.

UP NEXT
The Raiders will compete just upstate at the Big Red Invitational, hosted by Cornell University, in Ithaca N.Y. The teams will be competing on both Saturday, April 11, and Sunday, April 12.
