Track and Field Shines in New York City

Epstein breaks pole vault record for second straight week

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Raiders' track and field teams traveled to New York, N.Y. to compete in the Dr. Sander Scorcher, hosted by Columbia University, on Friday and Saturday.

"Today's meet was a great early-season step forward for our group. We saw progress across the board with a lot of personal records and encouraging performances early in the year. Doing it in New York City with so many alumni and families in the stands made it even more special."

WOMEN

Senior Claire Gillis broke into the top ten in the women's 200m with a time of 25.04, earning seventh place.

Ashley Crane finished 19th in the women's 800m, followed closely behind fellow sophomore, Chloe Schiller, who placed 22nd.

Crane continued to be one of Colgate's stronger performers with a 20th place finish in the women's open one mile. Nell Droege, Hailey Bradley, and Audrey Luell also competed for the Raiders in the event.

Lucia Pew and Audrey Luell ran in the women's open 3000m, placing 12th and 18th, respectively.

Julianna Hallyburton logged a 9th place finish in the women's open pole vault with a height of 3.25m.

MEN

Sammy Heaven was one of four first-year students in the men's open 400m who placed within the top ten competitors among 46 entries. Heaven placed eighth overall with a time of 51.07. Will Terry and Jeff Groth also represented Colgate in the event, while Marcus Chu competed in the men's seeded 400m.

Juniors Liam Davis and Dakin Ebmeyer logged in 21st and 26th place finishes, respectively, in the men's invitational 800m. John Shapiro and Joshua Myers continued to represent the Raiders in the men's open 800m.

Charlie Klatka finished 16th out of 76 competitors in the men's open one mile.

The Raiders found success in the men's open 3000m with Andrew McGraw and John Griffith placing first and second, respectively. McGraw logged a time of 8:32.86, followed by Griffith who came in less than a tenth of a second behind him (8:32.92). Roman Steis broke into the top ten with a time of 8:45.11, with Max Khan following at 18th place.

Senior Samuel Epstein placed third overall in the men's invitational pole vault, but continued to set the standard for Colgate by breaking the school record once again. At the Suffolk Ice Breaker, Epstein cleared a height of 4.75m. On Friday, the senior broke that record with a height of 4.85m.

First-year Joel Douzanis finished 22nd in the men's open shot put with a throw of 14.15m.

Sammy Heaven, Will Terry, Henry Gaylord, and Marcus Chu logged a ninth place finish in the men's open 4x400m relay.

The Colgate men's and women's track and field teams will return to Ithaca, N.Y. for the fourth time this season to compete in the Cornell Invite on Jan. 31.
