HAMILTON – Colgate women's basketball won its third straight game on Senior Day after overcoming Navy in the second half to grab a 53-47 victory at home on Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Alexa Brodie led the charge, scoring a team-high 13 points, with five points coming from crucial free throws. Sophomore
Taylor Golembiewski rounded out the double-figure scoring with 10 points.
After trailing by three at the halftime break, Colgate shot over 53 percent from the field in the third to give the Raiders their first and definitive lead of the game. Golembiewski and Junior
Lindsay Blackmore accounted for 4-of-8 third-period field goals.
Colgate came out of the break hot, going on a 7-2 run starting at 7:07 of the third to give the Raiders their first lead of the game at 31-29. Schiller drained a trey, followed by back-to-back Golembiewski field goals in the run for Colgate. Navy drew a foul to score a free throw to cut the burst with 4:31 left of the period.
Brodie and Blackmore put up back-to-back jumpers with 1:20 on the clock to push Colgate's lead to five. The Midshipmen slashed the run to end the third with three straight points to trail 37-35.
Sophomore
Morgan McMahon sank two-straight jumpers, and Brodie scored two free throws around 7:57 of the fourth to extend the Raiders' lead to 43-37. Shortly after, Navy stopped the Raider run with four quick points to trail by two.
Two straight fouls on the Mids allowed
Christina Midgette and
Tiasia McMillan to score three points at the line to push the lead to five with 4:33 on the clock. Navy responded with a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to a point with 2:45 left of the fourth.
Luckily for Colgate, there would not be enough time for Navy to take back the lead as the Raiders ended the game scoring five straight points off three fouls that stretched for 2:13 thanks to Midgette and Brodie to push the final score to 53-47.

Head Women's Basketball Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan
"That was a gritty win today. We knew it wasn't going to be an easy game. Navy is a team whose record does not reflect their abilities, so we knew it was going to be a battle. I am proud of the resilience that my players showed throughout the game. We had a slow start, but we won on defense. We came out and fought hard. We made some tough plays when needed, and that is what got us the win today."
