HAMILTON – Kayle Osborne of Colgate Women's Ice Hockey stopped 26 shots in the Raiders' 3-2 loss Friday night to Princeton in the Class of 1965 Arena.
Princeton garnered game one of the ECAC Quarterfinals in a best-of-three series backed by a two-goal surge in the third period. Captain Sarah Fillier led the Tigers with a game-high two points as she tallied an assist on the game-tying goal and the game-winner midway through the third. Taylor Hyland backstopped the Tigers with 32 saves.
Colgate lit the lamp twice throughout 60 minutes of play, as its power-play unit went two for three. The Raiders were led by
Kaitlyn O'Donohoe and
Dara Greig, who found the back of the net in the second period. O'Donohoe lasered in her 17th goal of the season in the slot off a pass from
Neena Brick. Greig buried her 18th goal of the season from just outside the blue paint, as seniors
Sydney Bard and
Sammy Smigliani collected assists on the play.
Sophomore Brick won a game-high 68.4 percent on the faceoff dot. Princeton edged out Colgate, as it won 50.9 percent to the Raiders' 49.1 percent.
Osborne stood tall between the pipes for the Raiders as she made 22 saves through the opening 40 minutes of play. The junior goalie stopped seven of eight shots on three power-play chances for the Tigers.
Bard and
Maggie MacEachern sponged six total shots as they both led the Raiders with three blocked shots apiece.
The Tigers' offensive presence throughout the third period led to the win, scoring two goals in the final 20 minutes of play to secure the 3-2 win.
Princeton earned its first ECAC Hockey Quarterfinals win against Colgate since 2006-07 when they won 1-0 in the opening game.
