DULUTH, MN – Colgate women's hockey lost a non-conference matchup at No. 7/9 Minnesota Duluth on Friday night, 3-0. Ally Simpson and
Emma Pais led the Raiders with four shots on goal each in the first shutout loss for Colgate since October of last season.
The physical contest was played evenly through the first 20 minutes with Colgate holding a 13-11 shots advantage heading into the intermission. The Raiders earned a number of open looks at the net in the early going including a power play opportunity late in the period.
But the special teams unit which ranked first in power play percentage heading into the contest could only muster up one shot over the next two minutes which went wide. In total, Colgate only tallied two shots in man-up situations.
To start the second, Colgate upped the tempo but still struggled to find any rhythm offensively. The Bulldogs capitalized on the miscues and seized momentum four minutes into the middle period with their first goal of the night.
Despite being outshot for the second-consecutive frame, Minnesota Duluth took a two-goal lead into the third after extending its lead with a score at the 18-minute mark.
The home team hunkered down in the third period, cutting off passing lanes and diffusing Colgate's attacks before any real pressure could be applied. Minnesota Duluth then put the game firmly out of reach with five minutes remaining, converting on a breakaway to hand the Raiders their first road loss of the season.
