Davock’s Goal Lifts Colgate Over Bucknell

Raiders' season-high four shots on goal complement stout defensive effort

HAMILTON  — Senior Aidan Davock chipped in his team-leading fifth goal of the season to give Colgate men's soccer its second Patriot League win of the year. The 1-0 decision against the Bucknell Bison is the fourth clean sheet of the season for the Raiders' defensive unit which has only allowed one goal in the past three outings.

"I'm really happy for the guys," Head Coach Erik Ronning said. "The last few games we've been 100% committed to each other and the values that make us successful. We defended incredibly hard today and when you're having trouble scoring, you just have to keep doing the things you're supposed to do and eventually the goals will come."

The evenly played first half did not see many promising chances for either side, that was until Alejandro Coury drew a penalty when jumped for a header and was undercut by a Bucknell defender seven yards outside the box.

Coury's big leg was unable to convert the free kick, however, forcing the Bison and Raiders into the break locked in a scoreless stalemate.

Coming out of the halftime locker rooms, the Raiders found their rhythm offensively putting up two shots in the first five minutes of the second frame. In the 56th minute, Colgate broke through when Coury found some room on the right sideline.

He beat the Bucknell defender with speed and used his inside foot to curl a beautiful ball to the streaking Davock on the far post. A quick tap-in from the senior striker would eventually prove to be enough for the win, but first-year forward Connor Cates struck a shot from just over midfield in an attempt to chip the keeper, but the ball went inches too high.

Bucknell threatened late with two consecutive corner kicks and a dangerous possession deep in Colgate's defensive third, but superb defending from Mason Pahule cleared the ball and secured the victory for the Raiders.
