ITHACA, N.Y. — Colgate men's soccer faltered on the road, dropping a non-conference contest against Cornell, 3-1, on Tuesday night.
The Raiders conceded two goals within the first 10 minutes, shifting the game plan and breaking them out of Head Coach Erik Ronning's defensive shell. Colgate was outshot 8-3 through the first 30 minutes, forcing senior goalkeeper Andrew Cooke to make three of his six saves in the opening half-hour.
Cornell looked to be in complete control of the match early, dominating with aggressive attacks and relentless pressure on Colgate's backline. That was until senior defender Ryan Leask played a ball to senior forward Aidan Davock deep down the right side. Davock fielded the through ball, powered through the tackle from a Big Red defenseman, and fed a beautiful cross to junior Timmy Donovan who headed in his first score of the season.
The goal gave Colgate a spurt of momentum heading into the halftime locker room, but it was as much as they would get all night. After withstanding a physical battle in the second frame that saw 22 fouls and five yellow cards, the Big Red netted an insurance goal in the 73rd minute that effectively ended the night for the Raiders.
