Gylander Named ECAC Goaltender of the Week

Junior Logged a .944 Save Percentage Between Two Games Last Weekend

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — Colgate men's hockey goalie Carter Gylander was named ECAC Hockey MAC Goaltending Goaltender of the Week, announced Wednesday by the conference.

Gylander had a pair of stellar performances last weekend in the Raiders' games against Maine. The junior posted a 1.44 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage and made 51 saves between the two games.

The netminder recorded 23 stops in Colgate's 5-2 win over the Black Bears last Friday. This included 11 saves in the final period as he held Maine scoreless in the final 20 minutes and prevented a comeback effort.  He stopped five shots in the last minute and a half of the game after the Black Bears pulled their goalie and brought on an extra skater.

On Saturday, Gylander made 28 stops and allowed just one goal in 65 minutes of work as Colgate and Maine tied 1-1 after overtime. The Beaumont, Alberta native made eight saves in the opening period and held Maine scoreless. He also logged nine stops in the third and four in overtime to keep the game knotted up.

This is the fourth time in his career that Gylander has earned a weekly award, and it is his second Goaltender of the Week honor.

Gylander currently leads ECAC Hockey and is sixth in the nation in saves with 526. His .923 save percentage is also tied for third-best in the conference.

Colgate hits the road this weekend, facing off against RPI Friday at 7 p.m. and Union Saturday at 4 p.m.
