BU Bests Colgate, 58-44

Boston University fights off Colgate to stay undefeated

HAMILTON – Colgate fell 58-44 at home to the undefeated Boston University Terriers.

After trailing 28-27 to end the first, BU outscored the Raiders 31-to-16 to win their ninth straight Patriot League contest.

Both teams exchanged two baskets each to open the game. Christina Midgette and Alexa Brodie scored the Raiders' first two baskets. The Terriers broke the tie with a 4-0 run that pushed them ahead 8-4.

Four quick points apiece cut the deficit to four points. Three straight Raider points put Colgate within one at 12-11. Sophomore Morgan McMahon drew the Raiders' first shooting foul in the run to score a point at the charity stripe. The Terriers responded with three straight points to end the first period ahead by four.

BU opened the second period with a 7-2 run to lead 22-13. Brodie scored the Raiders' lone basket mid-run. Lindsay Blackmore started a 9-2 run to cut the deficit to two points. Blackmore scored five points, and McMahon tallied four in the run. Tiasia McMillan then sank a game-tying jump shot that put the score at 24. The Terriers took the lead back with a field goal, but McMillan downed another jumper to tie the score up again at 26.

A foul on Colgate allowed BU to take a one-point lead at the line with a little over a minute remaining in the first half. Sophia Diehl drained a field goal to give the Raiders a 28-27 lead to end the second period.

Sophomore Taylor Golembiewski opened the second half with a block on the Terriers, but BU eventually scored a jumper to take a one-point lead. Freshman Midgette drew a foul that gave the Raiders the lead.

The Terriers felt the pressure and answered with 10 straight points to lead 40-30. First year Lara Cook slashed up the run with a three-pointer, but a foul on Colgate started a quick 4-0 run for BU to bump their lead to 11 points.

McMillan answered with a layup for Colgate, then McMahon drew a foul to score a pair at the foul line to cut BU's lead to 44-37 with a little over a minute left of the period. The Terriers closed out the third with six straight points to lead by 13.

BU kept the hot streak going, opening the final stanza with a 4-0 run to lead 54-37. McMillan scored the first Raider fourth-period basket to break up the run, but the Terriers responded fast with a field goal to extend their lead to 17 points.

Blackmore countered with five unanswered points to cut BU's lead to 56-44. After three scoreless minutes, two different Terriers scored a point apiece at the charity strip to bump the Terriers' lead to 14 points to close out the game.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Women's Basketball Coach Ganiyat Adeduntan

"We played really well in the first half. We were resilient, which was a key focus for us today, but we weren't able to sustain that throughout the entire game. We didn't get enough stops to be successful.

Lindsay did a great job for us tonight. She was ready when her name was called and made the most out of her opportunity. She was a difference maker in the second quarter when we needed a scoring threat, and she is capable of scoring from the outside for us.

"We have to keep growing. I still feel like we're in a great place. We have to keep our confidence high, keep believing, and continue to work. If we keep working, we are going to put ourselves in a good position for the tournament."
