BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Colgate men's and women's cross country hit the road Friday to compete in the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Patriot League rival Lehigh University.
With the third meet of the year, the Raiders are beginning to establish their identity under Coach
Kim Keenan-Kirkpatrick in her first season as the associate head cross country coach.Â
The women started the day off hot, pacing off at the sound of the starters' gun.Â
Emma Pizer continued her strong senior season for the third straight meet. She crossed the finish line first for the Raiders, finishing 60th overall with a time of 22:18.0.
Pizer crushed her previous best time to set a new personal record by 1:07.Â
The women continued their strong push alongside Pizer, as five Raiders finished the race with personal-best times.Â
The men kicked off with the Men's College White 8K, finishing ninth in a race with 40 different teams and 340 athletes.
The Raiders started at a moderate pace, slowly working their way up the pack, passing multiple racers on their way to several personal bests.
Owen McMorrow crossed the finish line first for Colgate with a time of 26:20.0 and 45th place.
Gavin Fowler had a strong showing, placing third for the Raiders and 53rd overall with a time of 26:28.1.
Owen Holland was ready to compete today, finishing second for the Raiders and 47th overall, two spots behind teammate McMorrow for a time of 26:21.5.
FROM THE SOURCE
Associate Head Cross Country Coach Kim Keenan-Kirkpatrick
"Today our entire team ran personal bests, so as a coach you can never ask more than that. They all executed their race plans we set for them and had great results.
"The men were led by a shoeless Freshman
Owen McMorrow who lost his shoe with a mile and a half to go and still finished first for the team.
"The women were led by senior
Emma Pizer with a personal record of over a minute and seven seconds. Overall I am very pleased with our team's progress this season."
