BUFFALO, N.Y. — A pair of quick goals led Buffalo to a 2-0 victory over Colgate on Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium.
The Bulls got off to a hot start, scoring both their goals early in the first. In the 14th minute, Emily Lazenby lobbed a ball into the box that Tess Ford headed into the lower left corner to put UB ahead 1-0.
Three minutes later, Katie Krohn threaded a through ball to Leah Wengender, who slotted a shot into the net to double Buffalo's lead.
Colgate's lone corner kick opportunity came in the 16th minute but it was unable to convert. The Raiders also had a free kick chance in the 24th minute.
Emily Amano took the set piece and fired a shot that landed right in the hands of the Bulls' goalkeeper.
Cara Schmidlein and
Ari Bezanson each registered a shot early on, but both got saved. In the 37th minute,
Maddie Cappillo had an open look at goal and ripped a shot that sailed over the crossbar.
Grace Poncsak made six saves in net for the Raiders. The senior denied the Bulls on a scoring chance in the 53rd minute when she made a diving save on a low shot from close range. Poncsak also came out and made a big stop on a breakaway chance in the 70th minute.
Colgate's offense could not get much going in the second half as the Raiders registered just one shot, which came off the foot of Bezanson. The freshman had a good look at goal in the 75th minute, but the shot was blocked by a UB defender.
The Raiders fired a total of five shots in the game, landing three on goal.

"We keep encouraging the group to stay committed to getting better each day. I think today there were moments we got to see that, and there were definitely glimpses of us doing what we're asking. Credit to Buffalo, they're a good team and scored two quality goals today. Hoping we continue to build and stay committed to the process as we carry on through a very challenging stretch of games."
