Raiders' Comeback Falls Just Short

Colgate Holds BU Scoreless in Final Three Quarters but Falls 3-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Colgate held BU scoreless in the final three quarters but could not complete a comeback, falling 3-2 to Boston University on Saturday afternoon.

Amanda Allen scored off a penalty corner in the third to pull the Raiders within one. Rachel Alderfer inserted the corner, and Sarah Killcommons had the stick stop for Allen's shot that she fired past the goalie to make a 3-2 game.

Colgate's comeback fell just short as they could not find an equalizer in the fourth. Ella Murphy and Aaliyah Linfoot each registered shots, but both got denied by the Terriers' goalie. With five minutes remaining, Sara Killcommons ripped a shot that got blocked. Allen followed that with another shot, but it got saved.

Murphy scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to get Colgate on the board two and a half minutes into the second quarter. Linfoot played a pass into the shooting circle to Murphy. The junior turned and fired a shot into the lower left corner to cut the lead to two at 3-1.

The Raiders had one penalty corner in the second quarter, from which Allen fired a shot that just missed as it hit off the post.

Anna Unger played the first quarter making three saves. Cammy Foster came in for her in the second, making four saves and keeping the Terriers off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Rachel Alderfer prevented the Terriers from adding to their lead when she stopped the ball on the goal line, earning a defensive save.

Colgate had three penalty corners in the opening quarter but a strong defensive performance from the Terriers prevented them from scoring.

The Terriers got off to a hot start, scoring three goals in the first quarter. It began three and a half minutes in when Martu Coulo scored off a shot from the middle of the circle. BU then scored another pair of goals less than 30 seconds apart.

With just over five minutes remaining, Ellie McIntyre played a pass to Ella Rottinghaus for a shot that she was able to finish from in front of the goal. Boston Univeristy then took it back down the field as Coulo slotted a shot past Unger to make it 3-0.

Colgate logged 12 shots in the game, including seven on goal, after outshooting the Terriers 7-6 in the second half. Colgate also held the advantage in penalty corners in the game at 10-6.
