Colgate Succumbs to American, 4-1

Widdowson converts on penalty stroke

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Colgate battled American, but the Eagles' offensive prowess led them to a 4-1 victory over the Raiders at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex.

GARETH TERRETT'S COMMENTS
"We were very good in patches and caused an excellent American team problems with our pace of play. Sadly, we also gifted them opportunities when we didn't perform simple skills and make decisions at the level we expect of each other. American is too good a team not to take full advantage of that. It was a tough game with lots of ups and downs in performance."

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • American fired off two shots in the first quarter, but Kennedy Glinn made two saves to keep the game scoreless through the first 15 minutes.
  • The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, scoring off a penalty corner.
  • American scored its second goal in the 26th minute off a penalty corner to extend its lead to 2-0.
  • Morgan Willis was fouled late in the second quarter, earning the Raiders a penalty stroke.
  • Lauren Widdowson converted the attempt in the 28th minute, cutting Colgate's deficit to 2-1 heading into halftime.
  • American scored two more goals off penalty corners in the third quarter to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
  • Willis and Caroline Rotteveel each fired off a shot late in the quarter, but the Raiders trailed 4-1 heading into the final 15 minutes.
  • Colgate fired off four more shots in the fourth quarter, but neither team scored, as American prevailed 4-1.
NOTES
  • Widdowson scored her fourth goal of the season, marking a career high.
  • Kennedy Glinn and Marissa Buck split time in goal for the Raiders, each making two saves.
