Raiders Tie Leopards on Senior Day

Colgate Battles Lafayette to 1-1 Draw

HAMILTON — Ally Giovino's second-half goal earned the Raiders a point in the Patriot League standings as they tied Lafayette 1-1 on Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

The Raiders honored seniors Grace Poncsak, Abbie Grady, Emily Amano, Maggie Cotter, and Merritt Smith before the game.
 
Giovino scored in the 75th minute to tie the game up at 1-1. Ari Bezanson played the ball into the box to Giovino, who beat a defender and hit a bending shot inside the right post. The goal was the junior's third of the season.
 
The Leopards opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in the second minute. April McDonald dribbled in the box and fired a shot into the back of the net to give Lafayette a 1-0 lead.

Colgate had many other opportunities to score throughout the game.
 
Maddie Cappillo ripped a shot in the 15th minute that went over the crossbar. Five minutes later, Amano also put a shot high.
 
The Raiders got awarded a free kick in the 39th minute just outside the box, but they could not capitalize on the opportunity
 
In the 42nd minute, Bezanson was played a through ball in the box. She collected the ball and tried a shot, but the Leopards' goalie came out and made a big save to deny her.
 
Colgate came out firing in the second, notching five shots in the first 20 minutes of the half.
 
Bezanson had six shots in the second, but she could not capitalize on any of the chances. She fired a pair of shots that got stopped by the goalie, including a good look in the 87th minute.
 
Ellie Stokes and Lyna Schaffer also got denied by the Leopards goalie, as she remained hot in the net.
 
Colgate got awarded its first corner kick of the game in the 80th minute, but it could not capitalize on the opportunity.
 
The Raiders finished with the advantage in shots at 18-5, including 8-2 in shots on goal.
 
UP NEXT
Colgate heads to Holy Cross Wednesday to close out the regular season. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
