Late Goal Spoils Raiders Night

Davock Nets Fifth Goal in Raiders Draw

HAMILTON – Colgate Men's Soccer hosted Lafayette in a Saturday, Oct, 15 game under the lights. The Raiders got the early jump off a goal from Aidan Davock but ended in a draw off a late goal from the Leopards.

Aidan Davock continued his dominant week of soccer, netting the lone goal in the first half to push the Raiders up 1-0. Davock now has a team-high five goals on the season.

The Leopards found the equalizing goal in the final minutes of play off a cross from a corner kick, securing the 1-1 tie.

Lafayette led in a majority of statistical categories, beating out Colgate in shots on goal 6-3, corners 8-2, and shots 12-10.

Andrew Cooke recorded five saves on six shots.

The Raiders got off to an early start, controlling the pace of play throughout the opening minutes. Aidan Davock forced a turnover and found himself outside the box with a scoring chance at the 12 minute mark, sending it just high enough to soar over the crossbar.

Davock's aggressive play paid off, scoring at the 24th minute off a redirect from Mason Pahule's penalty kick. The Raiders played on with the 1-0 lead.

The pace of play shifted in favor of the Leopards, as they controlled possession of the ball. Andrew Cooke and the Colgate defense stood tall, denying Lafayette any chance of finding the equalizer.

In the final minutes of play, the Leopards headed one to the back of the net off a cross, pushing the game to finish in a draw.

Head Coach Erik Ronning

"Although disappointing to concede as late as we did, it was a fair result. We earned an important point and are in a good position with three league games remaining.

"There is much our players learned from this game and ultimately will make us a better team."
