Box Score ALBANY – It took a set for Colgate to warm up but after dropping that set the Raiders never looked back in a 3-1 victory over the host University of Albany in the first round of the Crowne Plaza Albany – The Desmond Hotel Volleyball Classic. After the first set loss, the Raiders never trailed again in the match.
The Great Danes jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with a 25-14 first set win. Colgate fell behind 9-18 on a strong attack by the Great Danes and could not narrow the margin as Albany racked up 15 kills to the Raiders' 9 in the set.
After a 1-1 start, Colgate never trailed in the second set. The key to the set was a long volley featuring several spectacular plays by both squads giving the Raiders a 16-12 advantage. Albany managed to pull within 21-22 but a kill by
Libby Overmyer gave the Raiders a 25-22 win.
The Raiders dominated the third set with 25-15 win. Key to the edge was five straight service points by Ashley Chow that increased the Colgate lead from 16-12 to 21-12.
The deciding set was again dominated by Colgate by a 25-16 margin.
Harper Snyder had a big night at the net hitting at a .600 clip with 11 kills in 15 attempts and added three block assists. Overmyer had 17 kills with two block assists. Julia Kurowski tallied 41 assists for the Raiders while Taylor Cigna paced Colgate with 19 digs.
