BUFFALO, N.Y. – Colgate swept a pair of Varsity 8+ races against Canisius on a great Sunday afternoon of racing.
 
The Raiders cruised to a 6-second victory in the opening race, and then held off Canisius by just 1 second in the nightcap. Colgate's second varsity 8+ boat was forced to race against the 1Vs because the Griffins could not field a second boat due to return-to-play protocols.
 
Canisius prevailed in all of the fours against the Colgate novice rowers.
 
"Thank you to Canisius College for hosting us; this was a good weekend of racing for us," Colgate head coach Jessica Deitrick said. "This week our eights made great changes during practice, and I was happy to see that they were able to hold most of those changes during racing.
 
"The 1v8 won both races this weekend but they are excited to find more speed over the next few weeks. The 2v8 did a great job of pushing themselves in the 1v event and were able to close the margin a bit in the 2nd race, which was great!"
 
Deitrick appreciated the fact that for the first time in a long time, her Colgate squad was able to race two fours.
 
"The women in our fours are all novice rowers, so this weekend was a really great experience for them," Deitrick said. "They made great changes between the two races and I am excited to see their continued improvement over the next few weeks."
 
Colgate takes on Hamilton, Ithaca and Marietta this Saturday on the Erie Canal in nearby Rome.

Women's Varsity 8+

Race 1 Results: The Colgate 1V boat crossed in a winning time of 8:17.6. Canisius was second in 8:23.7, with the Colgate 2V boat posting a time of 8:41.3.
Race 2 Results: With the winds picking up, Colgate 1V fought for a winning time of 8:25.4 to just edge Canisius' time of 8:26.4. Colgate 2V finished third in 8:42.3.
 
Women's Varsity 4+
Crew: 1 Ella Siegenthaler, 2 Gia D'Erasmo, 3 Ellinore Ament, 4 Sarah Wallingford.

Results: Canisius posting a winning time of 9:39.1, with Colgate second in a time of 9:59.2.
