Raiders Split with Manhattan, South Dakota

Misken Masterful Again in Win Over Manhattan

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – Colgate split Saturday's doubleheader in Madeira Beach, cruising to a 9-0 victory over Manhattan in the opener before falling to South Dakota 6-1 in the nightcap on Saturday.

Steph Jacoby and Morgan Farrah collected three hits on the day to lead Colgate offensively. The Raiders continued to show their power, blasting four more homers to bring the weekend total to nine. Nicole Rounsavill hammered her team-leading fourth long ball, Kaitlyn Borruso drilled a grand slam to finish with four RBIs, and Morgan Farrah and Mia Guevarra both walloped solo shots.

Bailey Misken returned to her dominance in the circle, improving to 4-1 on the season with her fourth shutout and third complete game to lower her ERA to 1.52 for the season.

Game 1: Colgate 9, Manhattan 0 (5)
The opening game was an old-fashioned pitchers' duel until Colgate put up a crooked nine spot in the top of the fifth. Colgate sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning, racking up eight hits with three home runs and two doubles to put the game away.

Sabrina Odierno opened the scoring with an RBI single through the right side to score Rebecca Johnson from second. Odierno scored one batter later when Rounsavill deposited a two-run homer over the wall in left field. Guevarra went back-to-back, continuing the homer barrage with an opposite-field solo shot to put the Raiders in front 4-0.

Farrah started the frame back up with a single into left field. Jacoby roped a double to right center and Adrienne Nardone for the second straight day came through with a pinch-hit RBI single. After Jordan Miller worked a walk to load the bases, Borruso brought everybody home with a towering grand slam to left field to stretch Colgate's lead to 9-0.

Misken was on fire in the circle and capped off her shutout with a scoreless fifth inning to seal the 9-0 victory. She scattered five hits and struck out four with one walk to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Game 2: South Dakota 6, Colgate 1
South Dakota did most of its damage in the second inning, scoring four runs on four hits. Laura Eamiguel capped off the frame with a two-run double to give the Coyotes an early 4-0 advantage.

Farrah got the Raiders on the board in the home half of the inning with her second home run in as many days. She led off the frame and sent a rocket over the wall in left field to cut the deficit to 4-1. Colgate could not build off the solo blast, as Farrah recorded the Raiders' next hit in the fourth inning.

Bella Crow settled in nicely in the circle, dealing a scoreless third and perfect fourth inning before South Dakota added insurance runs in the fifth and sixth to extend its lead to 6-1.

Borruso, after driving a mammoth grand slam in Game 1, pitched the final 1 2/3 innings of Game 2. She escaped a bases-loaded jam unscathed in the sixth and worked a scoreless seventh, but the Raiders went down in order in their final at-bats and South Dakota held on for the 6-1 nightcap win.

QUOTES
Colgate Head Coach Marissa Lamison-Myers
On the doubleheader split:
"We played well in the first game. I was happy with where we were on both sides of the ball. Unfortunately, we just couldn't get anything going with our bats in the second game. We are looking to move forward and focus on our next game against Columbia tomorrow."
