Rob Stone '91 Returning to Hamilton

Former Soccer Standout, Current Fox Sports Host Attending Colgate-Syracuse Match

HAMILTON – Colgate men's soccer standout and current Fox Sports commentator Rob Stone '91 is expected to return to Hamilton on Tuesday and support the Raiders in their home match against Syracuse at 7 p.m. at Beyer-Small '76 Field.

Stone wore the Maroon and White from 1987-90, serving as team captain his senior year en route to earning First Team All-Patriot League honors in the conference's inaugural season. He concluded his Colgate career as the all-time assists leader with 15 (now third).

40461A native of Simsbury, Conn., Stone majored in English during his time at Colgate. He began his broadcasting career shortly after graduation as a production assistant for ESPN's Sports Center and other shows in 1992.

After returning to his Connecticut roots at the ESPN headquarters, Stone spent four years (2007-11) as the lead play-by-play announcer for the Professional Bowlers Association telecasts. His catch phrases were quickly absorbed by the bowling culture, including "Hambone!" meaning four strikes in a row.

With now more than 20 successful years in broadcasting, Stone is the lead Fox Sports studio host, covering Major League Soccer (MLS), the National Football League (NFL), and NCAA Football and Basketball.

Stone most recently was a studio host for the 2019 Women's FIFA World Cup in France and has covered some of Fox's most successful broadcasts, including the 2016 MLS Cup, UEFA Champions League, and NCAA Men's Basketball Tournaments.

Colgate Athletics and Career Services are hosting a Lunch and Learn session with Stone on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. in Persson Hall Auditorium Lower Level Room  27. Lunch will be provided.
