HAMILTON — Colgate strung together 13 shots including five on target, but could not find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to Loyola on Senior Day Saturday at Beyer-Small '76 Field.
After a scoreless opening frame, the decisive goal came by Brandon Meminger in the 56th minute. Eric Widrick finished the match with six saves for the Raiders, including four in the second stanza, but Colgate's persistent efforts for the equalizer came up short.
Colgate's offensive pressure led to a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks, while the Greyhounds held a narrow edge in shots on goal, 7-5. Loyola's keeper Connor O'Keefe made five saves of his own in the shutout.
Colgate held a 13-9 advantage in shots and put four on frame in the final term. Otto Bourne's shot to the top corner in the 67th minute was stopped by O'Keefe, setting up one of Colgate's 10 corner kicks in the game but the Raiders couldn't capitalize.
Cason Stafford and Collin Hughes earned a pair of chances less than three minutes apart, but both opportunities were turned away by O'Keefe and the Greyhounds defense. Alex St. John notched Colgate's final shot on goal in the 89th minute, once again stopped by O'Keefe.
In a physical battle with six yellow cards, four to Loyola and two on Colgate, the Raiders continued to pressure offensively but couldn't come up with the equalizer.
