HAMILTON – Virginia Irby and
Jordan Miller of the Colgate Softball team have been named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Irby is named to the Academic All-League Team for the second consecutive year after earning Second Team All-Patriot League honors earlier this week. She becomes Colgate's third two-time Academic All-League honoree in school history.
Strong on and off the field, the Raiders' junior catcher has compiled a 3.62 cumulative grade point average as a peace and conflict studies and philosophy and religion double major. She is a two-time selection on the Patriot League and Raider Academic Honor Rolls.
Irby turned in another strong season for Colgate, batting .322 with nine doubles, five homers, 24 RBI, and 29 runs scored. She worked 20 walks and led the team with a stellar .418 on-base percentage in 146 at-bats during the regular season. Defensively, Irby posted a 25.6 caught-stealing percentage (12-for-47) behind the plate.
Miller once again had a strong year in the classroom and on the field, as she owns a cumulative 3.64 grade point average as an applied mathematics and mathematical economics double major. The junior is a two-time honoree on the Patriot League and Raider Academic Honor Rolls.
Leading Colgate with six home runs and 30 RBI, Miller has been a force at the plate this season. She has posted a .287 batting average to go with a .329 on-base mark and .473 slugging. Miller is one of three Raiders to start all 50 games this season.
Miller and Irby are Colgate's third duo in school history to be named to the Academic All-League Team in the same season.
The Raiders are ready to make their first Patriot League Tournament appearance in four years when they take the field against top-seeded Boston University on Thursday at noon. Patriot League Network is carrying the live streams throughout the tournament.
Colgate (25-25, 8-10 PL) already has its most wins since 2011, which was also the last year the Raiders advanced to the Patriot League Championship.
