VESTAL, N.Y. – Colgate Softball's offensive surge continued on Wednesday, as the Raiders knocked three more homers including a grand slam from
Kayla Martin to beat Binghamton 11-1 at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
Martin's grand slam headlined three more long balls as Colgate's program-record season home run counter reached 53. Lily Haluska powered a three-run blast, her 10th of the season, and Analisa Raffaelli topped off the scoring with a two-run shot in the fifth.
Haluska (5) and Martin (4) each had two hits and drove in nine of the team's runs. Raffaelli and Nora Megenity also recorded two hits apiece as Colgate racked up 10 hits on the day. Alexa Acker tossed a complete game and struck out four, allowing one run on six hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate jumped on Binghamton early, scoring three runs in the top of the first – all scoring off the bat of Haluska, who drilled a three-run bomb to straightaway center field. Megenity and Marina Taveras both came around to score on the go-ahead big fly.
The Raiders put the game out of reach with a six-spot in the second. Martin's grand slam to left center capped the crooked number after Haluska drove in Raffaelli and Megenity with a single to right field stretching the lead to 9-0.
Binghamton's Darien McDonough put the home team on the board with an RBI single in the third before Raffaelli drove a two-run homer over the wall in left center in the top of the fifth. Acker worked around a one-out double in the bottom of the fifth to close out the run-rule victory, 11-1.
