HAMILTON – Induction for the Colgate Athletics Hall of Honor takes place Sept. 9 during Homecoming Weekend.
In advance of those ceremonies, Colgate Athletics compiled a brief question-and-answer session with each of the honorees. Today's honoree is
Matt Lalli '08 from men's lacrosse.
Lalli remains Colgate's career assist leader with 95. He added 89 goals and is tied for fifth in career points (184). Lalli earned All-America Third Team as a senior and twice garnered All-Patriot League First Team honors.

He helped the Raiders tie for the 2006 Patriot regular season title. Then during his senior season, Lalli matched a conference tournament record for assists with seven as Colgate captured the 2008 title and advanced to the NCAAs for the first time in program history.
In between the Patriot League championship win over Bucknell and an overtime heartbreaking loss to Notre Dame in the NCAAs, Lalli's career-high seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) helped Colgate trip No. 2 Syracuse, 12-11.
Here is the Q&A with Matt Lalli:
What is your current occupation?
"Mergers & Acquisitions Consultant for Aon."
Why did you choose to attend Colgate?
"I wanted to use lacrosse as a tool to get in to a school that I wouldn't otherwise have been able to get into. I chose Colgate because of its location in the Northeast, its outstanding academic reputation, its Division I athletics and its on-the-rise lacrosse program."
What group of people proved to be most instrumental to your success as a Colgate student-athlete?
"My lacrosse teammates. After standing next to them every day in the never-ending snow and being run into the ground in practice after practice, they were my motivation to work my hardest and be the best that I could."
What was your favorite Colgate moment?
"Beating No. 2 nationally ranked and eventual national champion Syracuse 12-11 in the 2008 season finale in front of several thousand fans at Andy Kerr Stadium. The game was a week after we won our first ever Patriot League tournament championship, and a week before we made the first NCAA tournament appearance in Colgate history."
What would you characterize as your biggest accomplishment since graduating from Colgate?
"My family. From marrying my beautiful wife, Katie, in 2016 to buying our first home together last month – I am beyond proud."
