- FORMER NCAA PLAYERS IN NHL TRAINING CAMPS
HAMILTON – Three former Colgate men's ice hockey players have been named to NHL Training Camp rosters as the 31 NHL teams prepare for the 2017-18 season.
Chris Wagner (Anaheim Ducks), Kyle Baun (Chicago Blackhawks) and Mike Borkowski '16 (Detroit Red Wings) all began play at their respective camps that opened on Friday.
Wagner played 43 regular season games with the Ducks, scoring six goals and picking up one assists for seven points. Wagner was among the better Ducks in the playoffs, where he was one of 11 players to play in all 17 games. His three goals ranked sixth on the team.
Baun had an outstanding first full AHL season with the Rockford IceHogs, bouncing back from an injury that sidelined him during the 2015-16 season. Baun was second on the team with 34 points while his 14 goals were third and his 20 assists were fourth on the team. Following the IceHogs season, Baun was called up to Chicago to serve as a practice player before the Nashville Predators completed their four-game sweep of the Blackhawks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Borkowski had a memorable first professional season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL in 2016-17, winning the Calder Cup after defeating the Syracuse Crunch, 4-2, in the best-of-seven games series. Borkowski played in 51 games during the regular season for the Griffins, netting three goals and two assists for five points.
