HAMILTON - Men's hockey fell 4-1 against RIT at Class of 1965 Arena in its last non-conference tune-up before ECAC action begins.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Midway through the opening period, Ryan Sullivan found the back of the net for Colgate at 9:13, with assists from Bobby Metz and Luke Malboeuf, giving the team a 1-0 lead. However, the Tigers responded with a goal by Ryan Williams at 7:24, leveling the score. The period ended in a 1-1 tie with both teams displaying robust defensive plays.
The Tigers gained the upper hand halfway through the second frame with a power-play opportunity following a cross-checking penalty on Jacob Napier. The Tigers' Evan Konyen scored a power-play goal, assisted by Austin Brimmer and Zach Wigle, to extend the visitors' lead. Colgate continued to press offensively, but the period closed with the Tigers maintaining a 2-1 advantage.
Colgate's momentum was hindered by back-to-back penalties in the third, allowing the Tigers to maintain pressure. Even though Dyck made crucial saves to keep the team in contention, the Tigers extended their lead with two empty-net goals by Tyler Mahan and Brimmer in the closing minutes.
As the period ended, Colgate was unable to close the gap, with the final score at 4-1 in favor of the Tigers.
