HAMILTON – The Colgate men's ice hockey team remains in the Top 20 of the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll for the fifth straight week as the No. 18 team in the nation.
Colgate fell two spots from No. 16, which was its highest ranking since March 16, 2015, when they were No. 15. The Raiders received 129 points in the poll following their 4-2 loss to the UConn Huskies on Friday night. Colgate also received four points in the latest USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, their fifth straight week receiving votes in that poll.
The Raiders are one of four ranked ECAC Hockey teams for the second straight week as No. 4 Clarkson, No. 5 Cornell and No. 19 Union are also in the top 20. Harvard is also receiving votes with 16 points.
With the results of this week's poll, six Colgate opponents for the 2017-18 season are in the Top 20 and three more are receiving votes. Colgate is 3-4-0 against ranked opponents so far this season.
The Raiders wrapped up the first half of the season with an 8-6-4 record and 4-1-1 mark in ECAC Hockey play to put them in fourth place. Colgate's eight wins are its most in the first half of a season since the 2014-15 season when they went 9-6-1 on their way to a 22-12-4 finish and reached the ECAC Hockey Championship game.
Hunter Racine (Ottawa, Ontario) netted his first goal of the season Friday night in the Raiders loss, initially putting the Raiders up 1-0 in the first period.
Adam Dauda (Kitchener, Ontario) also scored for the Raiders, tying the game with 36.6 seconds to play in the second period before UConn scored a pair of power-play goals in the final 6:03 of the third period to secure a 4-2 win.
Goaltender
Colton Point is headed to Hockey Canada's National Junior Team Selection camp in St. Catharines, Ontario where he is vying for a spot on the team in the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championships in Buffalo, New York from Dec. 26 – Jan. 5. If selected, Point would be the first Raider to compete for Canada in the tournament.
The No. 18 Raiders will have the next few weeks off before returning to action in the new year on Jan. 5 when they host the Quinnipiac Bobcats at Class of 1965 Arena with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
