LOS ANGELES – Colgate men's soccer senior
Ethan Kutler was selected as the No. 39 overall pick of the MLS SuperDraft by the New York Red Bulls Friday evening. Kutler, the 17th pick in the second round, becomes the highest draft pick in Colgate men's soccer history.
"Words cannot express how excited and grateful I am for this opportunity," said Kutler. "I'd like to thank my family, friends, the New York Red Bulls and the Colgate community for believing in me. My three and a half years at Colgate have generated some of the most incredible memories and connections you could ask for,
"None of this would be possible without the guidance from my coaches and professors through the years," continued Kutler. "I'm extremely excited to begin this new chapter and embark in a career in professional soccer."
Â
"We are so thrilled for Ethan," said Colgate head coach
Erik Ronning. "What a proud moment for him, his family and the program. This opportunity is a reflection of his hard work and perseverance over the past four years. His best is yet to come and I know the Red Bulls got a good one."
A four-year starter, Kutler put together one of the most prolific careers in Colgate soccer history. The Lansing, N.Y. native wrapped up his time in the Maroon and White as a three-time All-Region player and three-time first team All-Patriot League selection. His 81 career points finish second all-time in the Colgate record books, while his 33 goals are good for third all-time.
Â
Kutler capped off his Colgate career by guiding the Raiders to a Patriot League Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance as a senior in 2016. He earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after establishing a new tournament record of five goals scored through three postseason contests. The forward also scored the first hat trick in Patriot League Tournament history in Colgate's quarterfinal win over Army. Kutler finished his senior season with 10 goals to earn first team All-Northeast Region laurels, ECAC All-Star honors and first team All-Patriot League nods.
Â
Kutler was named the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year as a junior after recording nine goals and six assists. His sophomore season saw him tally a team-best 12 goals and seven assists, while he added two goals and two assists as a freshman.
Â
Kutler is the second-ever Raider to be taken in the MLS SuperDraft. Chris Ross was selected in the fourth round of the 2010 SuperDraft by Chivas USA. Two other Raiders were taken in the MLS Supplemental Draft in recent years. Steven Miller was picked in the third round of the 2012 Supplemental Draft by Montreal Impact, while Mike Reidy was taken in the fourth round of the 2013 Supplemental Draft. Â

The New York Red Bulls are based in Harrison, N.J. The team competes as a member of the MLS Eastern Conference.
