HAMILTON – Colgate men's soccer senior
Zach Tamen picked up Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors, while he and five other Raiders were named All-Patriot League, as announced by the league Monday.
Tamen was joined on the first team All-Patriot League by senior forward
Ethan Kutler and junior midfielder
Jared Stroud. Senior midfielder
Colin O'Neill grabbed second team All-League laurels, while sophomore defender
Aram Ouligian was named third team All-League.
The five All-League Raiders helped guide Colgate to an 11-6-1 overall record and 5-3-1 mark in league play. The Raiders secured the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament and will host a Patriot League Quarterfinal game Tuesday.
Tamen was the anchor of a Colgate defense that secured nine shutouts this season, good for a shutout percentage of 0.47 that ranks 22nd in all of Division I. Three of those clean sheets came in Patriot League action. Tamen and the Colgate backline held their opponents to just 167 shots (9.2 per game) on the season, only 79 (4.4 per game) of which were on frame. In addition to his strong defensive play, the Washington, D.C. native also recorded five points behind two goals and an assist. He notched the game-winning tally in a 1-0 win over Lehigh and grabbed two Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week awards. Tamen earns first team All-Patriot League honors for the second-straight season and becomes Colgate's first Defensive Player of the Year since Dan Belke in 2007.
Kulter snags first team All-Patriot League laurels for the third season in a row. The Lansing, N.Y. native tallied five goals and 10 points on the season. Kutler knocked in game-winning goals in victories over LMU, UMass and Hartwick. He added a goal in a 3-0 win at Monmouth and helped Colgate force overtime with a last-minute goal against Army. His goals against LMU and UMass earned him Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors on Aug. 29. The five goals this season brought Kutler's career total to 28, which is tied for third place on Colgate's career goals leaderboard. His 71 career points ranks second all-time.
Stroud earns first team All-Patriot League honors after wrapping up the regular season as Colgate's points leader with 13 points behind three goals and seven assists. His most recent goal came in Colgate's regular-season finale at Lafayette as the Chester, N.J. native tapped in the game winner with two minutes remaining in regulation to lead Colgate to a 1-0 win and help the Raiders secure the No. 3 seed in the Patriot League Tournament. Stroud added goals against Monmouth and Cornell. He recorded two assists in a 4-3 overtime victory against Bucknell and added helpers against UMass, Siena, Saint Francis (Pa.), Holy Cross and Navy. He earned Patriot League Midfielder of the Week honors on Sept. 6. Stroud collects the second All-League honor of his career after being named second team All-Patriot League a season ago.

O'Neill picks up second team All-Patriot League honors after playing a key role in Colgate's strong midfield. He scored a goal in the Raiders' 2-0 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) and added an assist in a 4-3 overtime victory against Bucknell. O'Neill and the Colgate midfield helped the Raiders out-shoot their opponents 271-167 on the season. He was also named one of the final 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, which celebrates the most well-rounded athletes in Division I. O'Neill earns second team All-Patriot League honors for the second-straight season.
Ouligian snags third team All-Patriot League honors after helping the Colgate defense secure nine shutouts this season. Ouligian and the Raider backline limited opponents to just 79 shots on goal over the course of the season. In addition to his defensive presence, Ouligian also tallied eight points thanks to two goals and four assists. He was named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week and to the
College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Oct. 24 for helping Colgate to a pair of 1-0 wins over Navy and Hartwick. The Needham, Mass. native scored the game-winning goal against Navy and added a tally in a 2-0 win over Siena. He assisted two of Colgate's goals in a 4-3 overtime victory over Bucknell. Ouligian lands on the third team All-Patriot League for the second-straight season.
The Raiders wrapped up the regular season with an 11-6-1 overall record. It marks the first time Colgate has secured back-to-back 10-plus win seasons for the first time since 1991-92.
