HAMILTON – Colgate saw
Katie Bushee and
Holly Geranen add to their season home runs total on Sunday but it couldn't spark a Raiders victory.
Holy Cross ultimately secured a 5-4 win after a back-and-forth contest in which Colgate outhit its visitor 9-7.
Three Raiders went 2-for-3 on the day in
Mariel Schlaefer, Geranen and
Gillian Murray. Schlaefer and Geranen accounted for one run each, while Geranen also reeled in three RBIs with her blast over the left field fence.
Bushee chipped in with a homer of her own out over the center field fence to give Colgate the early 1-0 edge in the third.
The Crusaders would respond with a three-run fourth inning to take the lead at 3-1.
Colgate wasted little time trailing though as they posted a three-run inning in the fifth thanks to Geranen's long ball. Unfortunately two more runs from Holy Cross in the sixth ultimately secured the Crusaders the win, handing them the series at 2-1.
Brigit Ieuter was Colgate's starting pitcher going six innings allowing seven hits and five runs, three of which were earned. She also fanned five batters during her time in the circle.
Kira Griswold came in for relief pitching a one, two, three seventh inning.
Bushee's home run was her second of the season, while Geranen's hit was her sixth. Geranen is now tied for 16th all-time in season long balls and is just seven shy of matching Colgate's first-year record.
The Raiders are back in action on Wednesday for a doubleheader with nearby rival Binghamton beginning at 3 p.m. on Eaton Street Field.
