Raiders Close Out USF Tournament

Colgate Falls Twice to Quinnipiac and Purdue

TAMPA, Fla. – The Raiders closed out the USF Tournament against Quinnipiac, while also picking up a single game against Purdue on Sunday.

Colgate dropped both contests falling to the Bobcats 9-1 and the Boilermakers 4-1.

Game two was a scoreless ballgame until Purdue tripled down the right-field line and then scored on an error, taking the 1-0 edge after the third.

Colgate didn't waste much time trailing as it answered in the top of the forth when Tara Grennan hit a one out double to get things going. Two batters later rookie Holly Geranen hit a laser to center field, easily scoring Grennan to knot the score.

Unfortunately in the bottom of the inning the Boilermakers took back their advantage with three runs to make it a 4-1 game.

Despite some solid chances in the remaining innings, Colgate was unable to pull any closer.

Game one got away from the Raiders early as they conceded four quick runs in the first inning, creating a small deficit between the teams.

Two more runs in the second and third for Quinnipiac gave the Bobcats the six-run lead heading into the fifth.

Colgate grabbed one run back in the top of the fifth following a Katie Bushee single, which scored Gadiano, but ultimately the gap proved to be too much.

The Raiders have a day off before they travel to No. 9 Florida State on Tuesday for a single game with the Seminoles beginning at 6 p.m.

"It was a close game and a great matchup but we just weren't able to win the little battles when we needed to."
