TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Raiders faced their first nationally ranked opponent in the
Melissa Finley era on Tuesday when they took on No. 10-ranked Florida State.
Colgate ultimately dropped the decision 8-0 in five innings but not without a fight.
Rookie
Kira Griswold was solid in the circle for the Raiders despite allowing 10 hits and eight runs. The rookie worked her way around baserunners forcing the Seminoles to strand seven.
After a scoreless inning and a half, FSU took the 3-0 edge, highlighted by a two-run homer to center field.
Colgate tried to rally back in the fourth and fifth with lead off singles by
Katie Bushee and
Gillian Murray but was unable to bring them home.
The Raiders then saw their nationally ranked foe post a big bottom of the fifth inning to secure the victory.
Colgate has a quick turnaround as it faces Florida A&M on Wednesday in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

#10 Florida State's Numbers• Junior Alex Kossoff led the Seminoles by going 2-for-3 with two runs.
• Bailey Schinella also went 2-for-3, while Ellie Cooper and Jessica Warren added two and one hit respectively. They both tallied two RBIs as well throughout the game.
• Redshirt sophomore Jessica Burroughs earned the win in the circle for FSU shifting her season record to 8-3. She also posted 13 strikeouts during her five innings of work.
How It Happened• After a scoreless opening inning and a half, the Seminoles took the 3-0 edge in the bottom of the second.
• Victoria East earned a walk to get things started for FSU. After a ground out shifted her to second, a bunt for a hit from Kossoff put runners on the corners. As Kossoff stole second during the next at bat, a throwing error allowed the Seminoles first run to touch home plate. Colgate tallied its second out of the inning on another ground out but not before Kossoff advanced to third. On the ensuring play Warren drilled a shot over the center field fence to bring in FSU's second and third run of the inning.
• Bushee and Murray both led off with singles to start the fourth and fifth inning but Colgate was unable to bring them home.
• The Seminoles posted a big bottom of the fifth when they earned five runs.
• Schinella kicked off that inning singling to right field to get a runner on base. East reached base on a fielder's choice during the next at bat after the Raiders tagged the Seminoles out heading to second. A hit by pitch placed two baserunners on first and second before FSU converted on a double steal to shift them into scoring position. Kossoff then added another single to load the bases.
• On the ensuing play, Daddis doubled to right center to bring in three more runs for the hosts. With a runner on first, FSU earned a walk to put runners on first and second. During the next at bat Cooper doubled to end the game and secure the 8-0 victory for the Seminoles.
