Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior captain Haley Fleming went 2-for-3 on the day but couldn't lead Colgate past Army in the final contest of a three-game Patriot League series.

The Raiders and Black Knights went scoreless through three full innings until Army broke the deadlock in the fourth. Despite a late rally from Colgate in the bottom of the sixth, three insurance runs in the seventh ultimately secured the Black Knights the victory.

Colgate drops to 0-6 in league play and 5-18 overall. Katie Bushee and Alyssa Chaulklin also recorded a hit in the loss, while Megan Carnase pitched six innings allowing nine hits and five runs. Brigit Ieuter came in for relief going one inning.

Army (15-17, 5-4 PL) was led by Kasey McCravey, Caroline Smith and Alee Rashenskas, who all registered two hits on the day. Rashenskas also added a run and an RBI in the game, while Alyssa Strobehn reeled in two RBIs.

Smith pitched all three games against the Raiders and notched another victory on Sunday after pitching a complete game, giving up just four hits.

Both teams tallied hits in the opening innings but weren't able to bring the runners home as the game remained scoreless after three.

Army opened the scoring in the top of the fourth with two runs to take the 2-0 edge.

The Raiders tried to equalize in the bottom of the sixth with a late rally. With one out in the inning, Colgate saw Bushee and Fleming hit back-to-back singles to get runners on the corners. Unfortunately, Army was able to record the next two outs before the Raiders were able to knot the score.

The Black Knights earned three more runs in the top of the seventh, which created a five-run deficit for the Raiders that proved to be too much.

Colgate has a quick turnaround as they travel to nearby Cornell on Tuesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:30 p.m.
