WEST POINT, N.Y. – Due to unplayable field conditions in Hamilton, Colgate was forced to travel to Army for its three-game weekend series. The Raiders dropped Saturday's doubleheader to the Black Knights, 9-0 in six innings and 5-1.

In game one, both teams were deadlocked at 0-0, until Army recorded a big third inning, scoring five runs. They finished out the remaining three innings grabbing four more runs to take the opening game victory. Again in game two, the Black Knights tallied a run in the third inning and three in the fourth before Colgate finally got on the board. The Raiders cut Army's edge to 4-1 but were unable to pull any closer as the Black Knights registered an insurance marker in the sixth, which ultimately secured them the win.

"We were not the better team today," Colgate head coach Melissa Finley said. "I was hoping that our break would refresh us but instead we came out flat and were a little rusty.

"I want to see us come out and play with some urgency tomorrow. We do much better when we go on the offensive and score some early runs and I want that to be our focus."

Colgate (5-17, 0-5 PL) saw Haley Fleming go 3-for-7 on the day. Six other Raider players notched a hit in the doubleheader with Tera Vaughn also adding to her career runs total with one on the day.

Army (14-17, 4-4 PL) was led by Alee Rashenskas, who went 3-for-6 with two runs and an RBI in the two games. Both Amanda Nguyen and Alyssa Strobehn recorded three hits, while also adding two runs and an RBI and one run and three RBIs, respectively.

During the first game, both teams were held scoreless though the opening two innings.

Army created a five-run margin between the teams after a big third inning.

They were able to tack on one more run in the fourth before Colgate started a small rally in the bottom half. With one out in the inning, Dowling singled through the left side and then advanced to second on an error. Unfortunately, the Raiders left her stranded as Army earned the next two outs, escaping the inning not conceding any runs.

The Black Knights tallied three more runs throughout the next two innings, however, to secure the victory in six innings.

Megan Carnase went six innings in the circle for the Raiders, allowing 12 hits and nine runs, with just three of those being earned. Caroline Smith notched the win for Army pitching six innings giving up just two hits.

After two scoreless innings in game two, it was the Black Knights who again jumped out to the early lead. Army recorded a one-run third and a three-run fourth to take a 4-0 edge into the bottom of the fourth.

Colgate finally got on the scoreboard when Vaughn started the bottom of the inning singling to center field. Tara Grennan grounded out during the next at bat, shifting Vaughn to second base. On the ensuing play Eileen Ornousky singled down the left field line to put two runners on base. Army recorded its first out before Alyssa Chaulklin reached base on a fielder's choice to load the bases. During the next at bat Katie Bushee singled to left field, scoring Vaughn for the lone Raider run of the day.

The Black Knights answered with an insurance run in the fifth inning, which ultimately secured them the doubleheader sweep.

Sophomore Brigit Ieuter went 3.1 innings on the mound, allowing five hits and four runs. Rookie Gillian Murray came in for relief going 3.2 innings giving up three hits and one run.

Smith again registered the win for the Black Knights pitching a complete game, allowing seven hits and one run.

The Raiders are back on the field Sunday when they take on the Black Knights in the final game of the three-game series at 12 p.m.
