HAMILTON -- Former Colgate star
Peter Baum '13 is joining the Major League Lacrosse organization that drafted him last year.
The Ohio Machine of Major League Lacrosse announced Wednesday the addition of Baum to their playing roster for the 2014 season. Baum became Colgate's first student-athlete to be drafted No. 1 overall by a professional sports franchise when the Machine made Baum the top overall pick in the January 2013 draft.
Baum spent his first summer after graduation playing on the LMX Pro Tour, which is based in the western part of the country. Baum is an Oregon native who became the all-time Colgate and Patriot League leader in goals scored with 164.
He won the
prestigious 2012 Tewaaraton Award and Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the nation's top player, becoming the first Colgate, Patriot League and West Coast player to win the Tewaaraton.
"I could not be more excited to begin my MLL career with the Ohio Machine," Baum said in the team's release. "They are one of the most exciting franchises in the league to me, and are a perfect fit for my desire to help spread the game to non-traditional lacrosse markets. The team has a young roster that is loaded with exciting talent, and I am really looking forward to getting into training camp and doing my best to make an immediate impact."
