Dunn Set To Join Women’s Soccer Staff

Defending Patriot League Champs Add Assistant Coach

Matt Dunn joins the Raiders' women's soccer staff after two-years as the head women's coach at Lycoming College.
HAMILTON – Head women's soccer coach Kathy Brawn announced Thursday the hiring of Matt Dunn as the new goalkeeper coach.

"As a head coach, I am always looking to bring in the best people to join our staff, work with our student-athletes and represent Colgate," Brawn said. "Matt Dunn is no exception. His experience in all facets of coaching a collegiate team, his willingness to be a cooperative team member, and his innovative ideas both on the field and off, will all be tremendous assets to our program. Chris McLain and I are happy that Matt will be joining us on the sidelines this fall."

Dunn comes to Colgate after a two-year stint as the head women's soccer coach at Lycoming College. While at Lycoming, Dunn managed all aspects of the Warrior's program as they competed in the highly competitive Commonwealth Conference.

Dunn's success at Lycoming was not limited to only on-field success. He encouraged his players to enhance their development not just as soccer players, but also as students. The team improved greatly in the classroom, with seven players earning slots on the MAC Academic Honor Roll and the program earning its first NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Prior to taking over at Lycoming, Dunn spent three seasons as an assistant women's soccer coach at Binghamton, where he helped with all aspects of the program. Dunn was also responsible for training the goalkeepers and serving as the team's academic liaison—a role in which Dunn helped the Bearcats earn two straight NSCAA Team Academic Awards in 2009 and 2010.

Dunn coached four America East All-Conference team members and four selections to the all-rookie team. He also worked with the 2009 America East Fans' Choice Player of the Year, while helping the program to two America East playoffs appearances, including a run to the 2009 championship game.

Before moving on to work in the University of Buffalo's athlete academic services department and earn his masters degree in 2006, Dunn served as an assistant coach with the Bearcat's men's program from 2004-06. Binghamton advanced to the America East finals both seasons, and was ranked as high as 19th in the country.

As an undergraduate, Dunn helped establish the Geneseo women's soccer club program, while also working with the Le Moyne women's team. In 2003, he served as head coach for the Owego Free Academy boy's varsity soccer team, his alma mater, where the team finished with an 11-6 record.

Dunn, a native of Owego, N.Y., earned his bachelor's degree in history from Geneseo in 2004 and a master's degree in education from Buffalo in 2007. Dunn also holds a NSCAA Premier Diploma and a NSCAA Goalkeeping Level III Diploma.

On the club level, he has been part of the coaching staff for many organizations throughout New York and is currently one of the coaches with the Odyssey Sports Soccer Club.
